The Puducherry Newspaper Agents Association has requested the government to allocate proper space for them inside the newly-constructed bus stand for sorting and distribution of newspapers during early morning hours.

The representatives of the association have met Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Pondicherry Municipality Commissioner K. P. Sreejith seeking allotment of space inside the new terminal. After getting printed, the newspapers in bundles are transported to the bus stand area before being distributed to vendors in different places in Puducherry. Before construction of the new bus terminal, the agents used the premises for sorting the bundles, they said.

“We were promised space inside the new terminal before construction started but that promise was not fulfilled till now. We should be allowed to use the premises from 2.30 a.m. to 6.30 a.m. At present, the bundles on their arrival are kept on the pavements before being distributed to vendors. The newspapers get spoiled in the rain and there were occasions when the bundles were stolen because of lack of security,” the representation said.
