The open campaigning for the October 6 Thattanchavady bypoll will come to an end at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Returning Officer for the constituency Arjun Ramakrishnan said candidates and political parties would have to wind up campaigning by 6 p.m. Several special squads have been deployed to ensure political parties and candidates adhere to the closing time for electioneering in the constituency.
Public could use the toll-free number 1950 and eVIGIL mobile app of the Election Commission of India to register against any electoral offence, he said.
Holiday for Schools
The Directorate of School Education, Higher Secondary wing, has issued a circular declaring holiday for all schools in Thattanchavady on Monday and Tuesday. The holiday has been declared for schools in the constituency on Monday to facilitate election-related arrangements and on Tuesday for the conduct of polling.
The Heads of Institutions have been directed to ensure that no classes, programmes, or other activities are conducted during both the days. The school premises should remain accessible to election officials and line departments for necessary arrangements, the circular said.
There are around 26,921 voters, including 14,341 women, 12,575 men and 5 third gender electors, in the constituency. There are around 31 polling stations spread across 19 locations in Thattanchavady.
