YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy announced Anam Vijaykumar Reddy and his wife Anam Arunamma as Nellore Mayoral candidates in the presence of district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy and city in-charge Parvathareddy Chandrasekhar Reddy, at the YSRCP Central office in Tadepalli on Wednesday.
If the Mayoral seat of Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) is reserved for the OC General category, Vijaykumar Reddy will contest, otherwise Arunamma will be in the race if it is reserved for OC Women category. However, if the seat is designated as SC-reserved, another SC candidate will be considered for the seat.
Speaking to media, Mr. Kakani said, “While allocating tickets for local body elections, our party chief gives priority to the leaders and activists who worked loyally even during the difficult times. He had directed us to field a strong candidate with the sole aim of winning. The YSRCP is moving forward to achieve strong electoral results in the district.”
Affirming that the YSRCP cadre was fully prepared for the local body elections, he said, “We will provide opportunities to the party workers at all levels — ranging from corporator to mayor, and from gram panchayat ward member to Zilla Parishad (ZP) chairman. We will put up a strong fight in Nellore, regardless of the obstacles being created by the alliance leaders.”
“The YSRCP candidates are facing difficulties due to the non-issuance of caste certificates and No Objection Certificates (NOCs). Attempts are being made to keep strong leaders out of the electoral fray by invoking the Preventive Detention (PD) Act, opening rowdy-sheets, and filing false cases against them,” claimed Mr. Govardhan Reddy.
