Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has sought advice from the Advocate General regarding the plea to disqualify Mani C. Kappan, MLA.
In the first week of October, the Kerala High Court had directed the Speaker to decide on the question of the disqualification of the Pala MLA after his conviction in cheque-bounce cases.
Mumbai-based businessman Dinesh Menon had filed a petition seeking Mr. Kappan’s disqualification following his conviction.
Former Legislators to be felicitated:
Former Speakers, deputy Speakers and Legislators of the Keralam Assembly will be felicitated on November 1, Keralappiravi day, in connection with the start of the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Assembly. The Keralam Assembly first convened on April 27, 1957. The platinum jubilee will be celebrated on April 27, 2027.
Kerala Legislature International Book Festival (KLIBF) to become Literary Festival:
Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that the annually-held Kerala Legislature International Book Festival (KLIBF) will be expanded into a Literary Festival. Henceforth, it will be known as the Kerala Legislature International Literary Festival. The 5th edition of the festival will be held at the Legislative Assembly campus from January 7 to January 13, 2027. However, the event will also see an expenditure cut on account of the fiscal crisis faced by the State, the Speaker said.
Pampa Block of MLA Hostel
The formal hand-over of the keys of the Pamba block of the MLA Hostel in Thiruvananthapuram will be held on October 26, the Speaker said.
The block contains 60 flats. Although the block was formally inaugurated in February this year, the work has been completed only now, according to the Assembly.
