Cuddalore Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar has urged farmers to insure their Samba paddy crops under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, in the wake of possibility of reduced rainfall this year owing to El Nino and Climate Change.
The premium has been fixed at ₹584 per acre, and the last date for enrolment is November 16, 2026.
Under the scheme, insured farmers are eligible for compensation equivalent to 25% of the sum insured if deficient rainfall and drought prevent sowing, or cause paddy fields to germinate, across more than 75% of the area in villages notified for Samba paddy coverage, he said.
The Collector said a district-level monitoring committee would inspect the affected fields and submit a report, which in turn would be forwarded to the State government.
Applicants must submit their proposal form, Chitta adangal issued by the Village Administrative Officer, a copy of their Aadhaar-linked bank passbook with e-KYC completed, and a copy of the Aadhaar card.
