A man who called the police control room claiming to have planted bombs in a park and temple in Maduravoyal has been arrested.

On Sunday (October 12, 2025) morning, a man called the police control room from a mobile phone and claimed that bombs had been planted at Pallavan Nagar Park in Maduravoyal and at a nearby temple. Following this, a police team from Maduravoyal police station, along with personnel from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and the sniffer dog unit, conducted a thorough search of the premises. The threat turned out to be a hoax.

With the help of advanced technical analysis, the police traced and arrested the caller, identified as Boopathy, 43, of Villupuram district, on Sunday morning. The mobile phone used to make the call was seized from him.

Boopathy is a daily wage worker in Chennai. He made the hoax call to the police control room while under the influence of alcohol, the police said.

Disabled man held, released on station bail

In a separate case on Sunday, the Teynampet police station traced and arrested Ayyappan, 36, of Thiruporur, Chengalpattu district, who had called the police control room and issued a threat claiming that a bomb had been placed at the residence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Chittaranjan Road.

Investigations revealed that Ayyappan, a person with a disability, earns a living by selling SIM cards. It also came to light that in 2020, he had been jailed in a case registered at the Egmore police station for issuing bomb threats to the Koyambedu bus terminus, Egmore railway station, and other locations.

Further inquiries revealed that Ayyappan, an alcoholic, had been repeatedly making prank and nuisance calls to various public institutions and high-level government offices, claiming bomb threats.

The police said as the accused is a person with a disability and had made the call under the influence of alcohol, they counselled him and asked him not to repeat his actions. He was released on station bail and sent home on humanitarian grounds, they added.
