‘Bison Kaalamaadan’ trailer: Dhruv Vikram’s Kabaddi player breaks social shackles in Mari Selvaraj’s sports drama

The makers of Bison Kaalamaadan, acclaimed Tamil filmmaker Mari Selvaraj’s upcoming film starring Dhruv Vikram, unveiled the film’s trailer on Monday (October 13). Produced by Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Studios in association with Applause Entertainment, the film is set to release in theatres for Deepavali on October 17.

The trailer shows glimpses of a story set in 1990 at a village in southern Tamil Nadu. The sport of Kabaddi lives tall in the hearts of the youth here, especially Kittan, the protagonist played by Dhruv. However, his father (essayed by prolific actor Pasupathy) abhors his son’s interest in the sport, believing that it breeds violence in a town already divided by communal hate.

The trailer intercuts the gruesome social reality of life in this village with Kittan’s uprising, as he uses Kabaddi to scale up the social ladder and break free from the shackles. The trailer promises a riveting socio-political sports drama and another important addition to Mari’s impressive filmography. Notably, Bison is based on the real-life story of popular Kabaddi player Manathi Ganesan.

With Anupama Parameswaran as the female lead, Bison Kaalaamadan also stars Ameer, Lal, Rajisha Vijayan, Azhagam Perumal, Aruvi Madhan, and Anurag Arora, among others. With music scored by Nivas K Prasanna, the film has cinematography by Ezhil Arasu K and editing by Sakthi Thiru.

Bison Kaalamaadan is produced by Ranjith, Aditi Anand, Sameer Nair and Deepak Segal under their Neelam Studios and Applause Entertainment banners.

Dhruv, who is also the son of popular Tamil star Vikram, debuted with Adithya Varma (2019), a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy. He later starred opposite Vikram in Mahaan, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. Varmaa, the first version of the Arjun Reddy remake, directed by Bala, had a direct-to-OTT release.

Mari Selvaraj’s last film was Vaazhai, a film that chronicled the story of a boy’s lost childhood. The hard-hitting film starred in Nikhila Vimal, Kalaiyarasan, Ponvel M, Rahul R and Divya Duraisamy.
