Three people were killed in a road accident near Irattai Kulam junction on Surandai-Sankarankoil road on Sunday.
According to police, the deceased have been identified as S. Arul Selva Prabhu, 42, A. Usha Baby, 40 and N. Blessy Ruby, 34, all residents of Sivagurunathapuram in Surandai. The trio were travelling on a two wheeler on their way home, when their vehicle was hit from behind by a truck. Following the impact, they fell on the road and were subsequently run over by the truck, killing them on the spot.
Surandai police rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies and sent them for post mortem examination at the government hospital in Tenkasi.
A case has been registered at Surandai police station and the police have arrested the truck driver P. Kumar, 39 from Kulayaneri in Tenkasi district.
Further probes are underway.
