Two Delhi University colleges received bomb threat e-mails early on Wednesday, leading to evacuation and suspension of classes before they were declared hoaxes, said a police officer.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia said Ramjas College and Deshbandhu College reported receiving threatening e-mails around 1.59 a.m., claiming bombs had been planted on the campus.

Teams from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, Delhi Fire Services, and Delhi Police were rushed, which combed the campuses and found no suspicious objects, the DCP said.

“We immediately vacated the college and asked the students to go back home,” said Ajay Arora, Ramjas College principal, adding that practical exams scheduled for Wednesday had to be cancelled.

The police said that the sender of the hoax e-mail was yet to be identified.
