The police on Saturday imposed strict curbs on high-decibel post-victory celebrations in politically sensitive rural areas of Kozhikode district. Senior police officers said the restrictions would remain in force for a couple of days following isolated street clashes involving workers of rival political parties.
Regional meetings of various political party leaders were held in sensitive areas like Nadapuram and Kuttiyadi to ensure their support for the curbs. Candidates who won the elections were given instructions to limit their celebrations within the respective wards. In highly sensitive areas, the police discouraged public demonstrations after 6 p.m.
Restrictions were also imposed on the use of high-power firecrackers on roads and in thickly populated areas. Similarly, there were regulations on the use of high-decibel outdoor announcements without securing mic permits. Traffic police officers were deployed in several locations to track dangerous motorcades, especially triple riders on motorcycles, in Kozhikode city and rural areas.
Police officers from Vadakara station said no political demonstrations were allowed in their station limits after 6 p.m. Victory celebrations in open vehicles and DJ music events were also restricted after holding discussions with the leaders of various political parties, they said.
Police officers who supervised the security arrangements said there were no major incidents of violence in Kozhikode district till late in the evening after the declaration of the election results. Though there was a minor clash between a group of BJP and LDF workers at Nadakkavu, it was managed on time, they said
