A court here on Thursday sentenced two persons to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of a fisherman near Tiruchendur in 2017.

In November 2017, the victim, D. Antony Soosairaj, 50, from Adaikalalapuram in Tiruchendur, was standing in front of a petty shop near St. Antony’s Church in the area. J. Antony Livingston, 32, and S. Antro alias Antro Viyani, 38, from the same locality came there and allegedly mocked at Soosairaj, leading to a quarrel between them.

Livingston and Antro Viyani beat up Soosairaj, inflicting serious injuries on him. Soosairaj was admitted to Tiruchendur Government Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later.

Following a complaint, Tiruchendur Police registered a case and arrested Livingston and Antro Viyani.

The case was heard at Thoothukudi First Additional District Court. The Judge, M. Thandavan, sentenced Livingston and Antro Viyani to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on them each.

Government advocate S.P. Anand Gabriel Raj argued the case for the prosecution.
