The election manifesto of the Left Democratic Front for the Kozhikode Corporation aims to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2031 if it returns to power in the forthcoming local body polls. The left parties have been in power in the Corporation for over 45 years, which the LDF attributes to the timely implementation of projects that meet the developmental needs of the city.
The new manifesto proposes projects to make Kozhikode an IT hub, including a light metro, continuation of the City Road Improvement Project, and development of roads such as Mananchira–Meenchanda Road, Beypore–Meenchanda Road, and a flyover at Eranhipalam. It also includes setting up a mobility hub in the city, completing the beach road, converting all Corporation roads into designed roads, installing signboards on all roads, and implementing an annuity maintenance system to ensure long-term upkeep.
Other promises include installing more escalators to ease pedestrian traffic, scientifically developing city junctions, setting up auto, taxi and lorry stands with modern amenities, making Kozhikode the first landfill-free Corporation in the State, and using artificial intelligence to make the Corporation ‘smart’.
There are also plans to implement a hygiene literacy programme in the city, make it plastic-free, and install solar panels on all Corporation-owned buildings. Tourism initiatives include sea tourism, light and sound shows, and city illumination. The manifesto also proposes making Kozhikode women-friendly and slum-free.
