The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has urged farmers in Karaikal district to enrol their samba and thaladi paddy crop under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) before December 15.
R. Ganesan, Additional Director of Agriculture, told The Hindu that farmers who had taken up samba and thaladi cultivation until November 30, 2025, were eligible for the scheme. “The Central and State governments share the premium, and the Puducherry government pays the farmers contribution in full. Farmers should make use of this window as no extension is possible,” he said.
Farmers must submit their applications along with the season’s cultivation certificate issued by the Revenue Department, Aadhaar copy and bank passbook copy at the nearest Uzhavar Udhaviyagam. After verification, a sowing certificate would be issued, which must be uploaded through Common Service Centres (CSCs) for online registration.
Mr. Ganesan clarified that no service charge should be collected by CSCs for crop insurance enrolment, and the online system enabled farmers to verify their insured land extent directly.
