Chennai Metro Rail’s tunnel boring machine (TBM), Peacock, on Friday began digging from Panagal Park to Boat Club for building an underground network for the Phase II project.

This TBM, which was deployed for tunnelling between Panagal Park and Kodambakkam ramp, was dismantled at Kodambakkam and was launched again at Panagal Park. Now, Peacock has to drill a distance of 1.89 km on the stretch. It is to be noted that this machine would tunnel underneath the existing operational Metro Rail tunnels of the Phase I network near the Nandanam Metro Station. Peacock is expected to reach Boat Club by November 2026.
