Three persons were arrested in connection with the murder of an elderly woman on Saturday.
Unnamalai (75), a resident of Poosaripatti, was found murdered in her house on September 29 and her three sovereign gold jewellery was stolen. The Karipatti police registered a murder-for-gain case and special teams were formed.
On Saturday, the police arrested R. Santhosh (37) and R. Ranjith (27), residents of Periyaputhur in Salem and V. Ilaiyaraman (55), a resident of Veppanthattai in Perambalur district. Investigation revealed that the accused were involved in four more theft cases in Karipatti police limits. The police recovered 9.5 sovereigns of jewellery and ₹3.50 lakh in cash from the accused persons. They were remanded in prison.
