The Coimbatore district police have opened a new checkpost near Walayar on the Salem-Kochi Highway to prevent the movement of illegal items across the State border.
The checkpost covers both sides of the service road and spans approximately 300 square feet. It is equipped with 12 cameras, six of which capture vehicle number plates. The facility also has alcohol and speed testing devices and a direct link to the district control room.
The checkpost was inaugurated on Monday by District Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan, with other officials present.
