Tamil Nadu Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiaga Rajan visited the fire-ravaged LIC of India office opposite Madurai Railway Junction on Thursday.
The fire, which claimed the life of the branch manager and caused burns to an employee, had also destroyed several files.
The Minister, accompanied by District Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar, inquired with the senior officials of the LIC of India about the incident and assured all support from the government.
The officials said a departmental inquiry was under way and they had also commenced the assessment of the loss.
Fire and Rescue Service personnel said there was a short-circuit in the electricity lines. Further investigation is on.
