Over 30 sheep were killed after being hit by an Erode-bound express train from Shecottah near Sadayappapuram village in Tenkasi district on Sunday.
According to an official from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Shencottah, the sheep belonged to a local farmer, K. Pechimuthu of Sadayappapuram. In the early hours of Sunday, they ran out of the sheep pen after being startled by a dog’s barking in the area.
They then strayed close and were crossing the railway track that was located two km from Sadayappapuram. An Erode-bound express train collided with the flock, killing more than 30 sheep on the spot.
The RPF official further added that the area was cleared soon after the accident, and a case was registered against Pechimuthu by the Shencottah RPF.
