Chief Minister N. Rangasamy in a virtual address

The government will start disbursing the enhanced monthly assistance of ₹2,500 to women heads of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families from February 7, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said on Monday .
The Chief Minister, who gave a virtual address to mark the foundation-laying for a new building for the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Palloor, Mahe, said that the distribution of free laptops to students of classes 11 and 12, including to those who were not provided the same last year, would begin within a fortnight.
The foundation stone for the facility was laid by Lt. Governor K. Kailashanathan in the presence of K. Lakshminarayanan, PWD Minister, Ramesh Parambath, MLA, Yason M. Choudhary, Health Secretary, S. Sevvel, Health Director, D. Mohankumar, Regional Administrator, Mahe and C.H. Rajeevan, medical officer-in-charge of the CHC.
Mr. Rangasamy said land had been acquired for the new CHC that would be a major upgrade from the Palloor Health Centre which began functioning in 1958. Though about one acre of land was acquired in 2009 at a place called Palloor Karikkunnu, due to some technical difficulties, the project did not take off.
According to the Chief Minister, the people can see for themselves the various development and welfare schemes carried out by the NDA government over the past five years when compared with the track record of the previous government.
As part of the government’s focus on health and education, scholarships worth ₹27 crore have been disbursed and those who have studied in government schools will be given 10 per cent reservation in all college courses. True to the election promise, the government had been filling up vacant posts in the administration with recruitments completed for over 4,000 posts. Appointment orders for primary school teachers, nurses, revenue department and health departments will be issued soon, he added.

A press note added that the hospital project which had been stalled was expedited in 2023. The Palloor Veterinary Hospital, which is adjacent to the existing hospital building, was taken over by the Health Department and work required for the construction of the new building expedited.
A four-storey, 50-bedded hospital is coming up at the site at a cost of ₹12.75 crore with the project expected to be completed in about a year and a half.
In the first phase, the IP Block will be constructed and then the existing building will be demolished and the OP Block will be constructed. The new building will have modern facilities like Operation Theatre, Special Ward, Gynaecology Department, Physiotherapy Unit along with traditional treatment facilities.
The facility will benefit the residents of Palloor, Panthakal, Chalakkara as well as the poor patients of the nearby areas of Kerala, the note said.
