The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday arrested a Housing Assistant Engineer in Adilabad district for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 for showing official favour under a government housing scheme.

The accused, identified as Durgam Srikanth, an outsourced housing assistant engineer working in the Housing Department office at Narnoor, was trapped while demanding and accepting the bribe from a complainant at the latter’s residence.

According to the ACB, the bribe was demanded for uploading photographs of a partially constructed house under the Indiramma Illu scheme and for uploading the remaining stage-wise photographs required for sanctioning construction bills. The tainted amount was recovered from the possession of the accused.

He was arrested and produced before the special court for SPE and ACB cases in Karimnagar. Further investigation is under way, and the identity of the complainant has been withheld for security reasons.

Meanwhile, the ACB has reiterated its appeal to people to report any demand for bribe by public servants by calling the toll-free number – 1064. Complaints can also be made through WhatsApp and social media platforms, and officials assured that the identity of complainants would be kept strictly confidential.
