The Koyilandy Judicial First Class Magistrate Court has remanded Vaisakhan, a native of Thadampattuthazham in Kozhikode, in judicial custody on the charge of the alleged murder and rape of a woman, who was reportedly his girlfriend, earlier this month.
The woman was found dead inside his workshop at Malikkadavu in Elathur on January 24. The police had initially concluded it to be a case of suicide, and a case was registered. Vaisakhan’s role in the incident was revealed in a subsequent investigation, and he was arrested on the charge of murder and rape.
The woman and Vaisakhan had reportedly been in a relationship for years, and she was pressuring him to get married. Vaisakhan, however, was already married.
According to the police, Vaisakhan called her over to the workshop after convincing her that they would end their lives together.
He reportedly gave her juice laced with sedatives and murdered her. Later, Vaisakhan informed his wife about the “suicide” of the woman, and both of them took her to the hospital. The police grew suspicious about his acts and sealed the premises. They later examined CCTV footage and came to know about what actually happened there.
Meanwhile, the police have registered another first information report (FIR) against Vaisakhan under provisions of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, after reports emerged that he had been sexually abusing her for years ever since she was a minor.
