An advanced robotic surgery programme, introduced at Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU), Visakhapatnam, was launched by MP M. Sribharat at Dwarakanagar here on Tuesday (23 December, 2025).
The robotic surgery programme will benefit patients requiring surgeries like prostate cancer surgery, radical prostatectomy, partial and radical nephrectomy, pyeloplasty, ureteric reimplantation, bladder surgeries, ureteric stricture reconstruction, complex reconstructive urology, and paediatric robotic urology.
Mr. Sribharat said that the introduction of advanced robotic technology at this kidney care hospital in Visakhapatnam represents a positive development in expanding access to quality healthcare. Such advancements support improved surgical precision and indicate Vizag’s steady progress in the field of advanced medical care.
Dr G. Ravindra Varma, MD and senior consultant urologist, andrologist, uro-oncologist, laparoscopic and robotic surgeon, explained that with its advanced capabilities, surgeons could now perform complex and delicate surgeries with greater accuracy and precision, reducing the patient’s pain and scarring, resulting in a quicker recovery time.
Robotic surgery for prostate cancer, particularly robotic radical prostatectomy, offers precision in tumour removal, reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery compared to traditional open surgery.
Dr. Amit Saple, Executive Director and Senior Consultant Urologist, Uro-Oncologist, Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeon, said that robotic-assisted surgery empowers surgeons to deliver exceptional outcomes while ensuring patient comfort and quicker healing.
Sandeep Guduru, CEO, AINU, also spoke.
