The All India Agricultural Workers Union staged a demonstration in front of the Sivaganga District Collectorate, demanding the cancellation of the VB-G RAM G scheme and the re-implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

They sought to increase the number of working days under the employment guarantee scheme to 200, to provide a daily wage of ₹700, to immediately disburse the wages pending for three months, and not to harass workers by requiring eye scan verifications.

“Under MGNREGA, every person willing to do unskilled manual work in any rural area must be provided employment. By diluting this universal guarantee, the VB-G RAM G makes employment dependent on the discretionary powers of the Union government, which will notify such rural areas for State government to provide work,” said district president Ponnusamy.
