Several nutritious meal and anganwadi workers were arrested in Perambalur and Pudukottai districts on Tuesday when they staged road blockades in support of their demands.
They demanded, among other things, that nutritious meal and anganwadi workers who had completed 10 years of service should be appointed to vacant posts in the government departments and sanctioned family pension.
Police sources said about 245 workers were arrested in Perambalur town after they staged a road roko near Palakarai. In Pudukottai town, about 60 workers were arrested when they resorted to a road roko stir near the old bus stand. All were later released.
