All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) general secretary and former four-time legislator Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri passed away on Tuesday. He was was 71 and ailing for some time.
According to party sources, Mr. Quadri served the organisation for several decades and worked closely with three generations of the Owaisi family. His association began with Abdul Wahed Owaisi who is credited with reviving the the party 67 years ago, and continued with former Hyderabad parliamentarian Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, as well as his sons Chandrayangutta legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi and Hyderabad parliamentarian Asaduddin Owaisi.
Widely known as “Pasha,” he first entered public office through the then Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, winning the election from Dabeerpura in 1986 and serving as corporator until 1991. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly from the Charminar constituency in 2004. In the 2018 Telangana Assembly elections, he contested from Yakutpura and secured a victory. He did not contest the 2023 elections.
AIMIM workers described him as a party loyalist and a trusted lieutenant who was respected by the cadre. They remembered him as a down-to-earth individual who had no airs.
