The All India Students’ Federation (AISF) has urged the State government to establish a law college and a teachers’ training institute in the district.

The demands were among the resolutions adopted at the district committee meeting of the Erode North district unit of the federation held in Sathyamangalam on Sunday.

The federation also sought the introduction of postgraduate courses at the Government Arts and Science College, Sathyamangalam. It said that though the college had been functioning for over a decade, students completing undergraduate courses had to move to other towns to pursue postgraduate studies. As seats in government colleges elsewhere were limited, many were forced to enrol in private colleges, which imposed a financial burden on families, it said.

The meeting further urged the government to provide separate hostel facilities for college students in Sathyamangalam.

AISF State deputy secretary K. Prabhu presided over the meeting. State president K. Ibrahim delivered the special address and State executive committee member Amal Unnikrishnan participated.
