The city police have caught an absconding theft accused after a citizen alerted them about the suspicious movement of a group of women.

Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said in a statement on Thursday that one Deekshit called the police on Wednesday morning, and informed them about suspicious movement of four women in Gorigudde area in the city.

The 112 patrolling team reached the spot and apprehended the four women within five minutes of the call. On inquiry, one woman was found to be an accused in an old house break theft case registered in Mangaluru East police sation in which she was absconding.

Mr. Reddy gave her name as Shivagami, a native of Holenarasipur in Hassan district. There were no criminal records against the other three women.

Shivagami was arrested and produced before the jurisdictional court, which remanded her in 14 days of judicial custody.

Calling upon citizens to be alert in their surroundings, Mr. Reddy said: “One call by a concerned citizen can make a difference at times. Don’t be indifferent thinking it’s not your job”.
