Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday announced that Andhra Pradesh would soon introduce quantum technology courses to equip students with next-generation skills as part of a broader plan to build a knowledge-driven economy.
During a meeting with representatives of IIT Madras at the State Secretariat, the Chief Minister said students must be prepared early for emerging technologies such as quantum computing and artificial intelligence. He said every student in the State should have basic exposure to these fields and stressed that government and private school students should benefit equally.
Mr. Naidu directed officials to roll out awareness programmes at the school level, with students of Classes 7, 8 and 9 being introduced to quantum concepts in a phased manner. He also asked the Education Department to set up computer laboratories in schools in stages and to coordinate with the Central government for required support.
Representatives of IIT Madras outlined proposals to impart artificial intelligence education through digital platforms in Telugu, English and Hindi. They presented a four-phase action plan to build AI awareness among students over a two-year period beginning next year, which was reviewed during the meeting.
The Chief Minister said a Student Partnership Summit would be organised by the end of January 2026 to provide a platform for students to showcase innovations. Such initiatives, he said, would foster entrepreneurial thinking and encourage students to emerge as future industrial leaders.
Calling for effective use of the Centre’s National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning, Mr. Naidu directed officials to ensure that over 50,000 technology students receive training in quantum-related skills. He said the quantum curriculum should be finalised by January 2026.
He also reviewed the expansion of true 5G services with BSNL officials. Senior officials from the Education Department and representatives from IIT Tirupati and IBM attended the meeting.
