1. Permission denied for cricket match at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru

The Karnataka government has denied permission to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to hold a match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy on December 24 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. On December 23, City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh announced the government’s decision.

“Following the stampede during the victory celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in June, that killed 11 persons, Justice Michael D’Cunha had made some recommendations. The police had also made some recommendations and put down a list of 17 corrective measures. Since none of them have been implemented, permission is denied,” Mr. Singh said.

KSCA had requested the government to allow the match between Delhi and Andhra Pradesh to be held at the stadium, at least without any audience. Virat Kohli, the star player of RCB, was supposed to play in this match for Delhi. Delhi’s first two games will now be held at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in the city’s outskirts.

2. Remedial teaching to improve SSLC results in districts of Kalyana Karnataka region

With an aim to improve the SSLC results of seven districts of Kalyana Karnataka region, the State government has decided to implement the remedial teaching programme in government and aided schools. These special classes will be held from January to March to all students grouped into above average, average and below average students should be engaged separately.

Termed ‘Mission 40+’, the teachers taking these classes will get ₹1000 per month, while each school will get ₹6000 to bear the travel expenses of students attending these classes from afar. The State government has earmarked ₹3.44 crore for the project, to be borne by Kalyana Karnataka Regional Development Board (KKRDB).

3. Biryani outing to Hoskote ends with abduction and robbery of four engineering students

Four students of a private engineering college in Bengaluru, who went to have biryani at Hoskote, were allegedly kidnapped and robbed by a gang of men in the early hours of December 21, 2025, before being let go. The Avalahalli police have arrested one of the accused and are searching for the others.

According to the police, the students, who had gone to Hoskote, were returning around 5.30 a.m. when they were intercepted near Kada Agrahara village by a gang. The gang allegedly forced the students into a shed near Medahalli, where they were robbed of three mobile phones and ₹40,000 in cash. They were are made to transfer ₹1.10 lakh through a UPI app.
