Citing poor maintenance at the MGR Nagar anganwadi centre in the district, parents are increasingly reluctant to send their children to the facility regularly.
Parents complained that the anganwadi centre located in the area, with more than 10 children enrolled, has fallen into disrepair due to a lack of maintenance and proper care.
As the centre, built eight years ago, is completely surrounded by bushes, making it difficult even to find a walking path, children are terrified to enter the premises, the parents stated.
“The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) failed to pay electricity bills. Consequently, Panchayat administration disconnected the power. Currently, electrical wires are seen hanging precariously,” says a parent, who did not wanted to be named. Due to the lack of water facilities, children are even unable to use the toilets.
Fearing for their children’s safety and health, parents have started withdrawing them, leading to a significant drop in attendance. Local residents have also issued an plea to the authorities to clear the overgrowth around the centre and restore the electricity connection immediately to ensure a safe environment for the children.
