Aspirants urged to utilise State government career initiatives

Aspirants preparing for competitive examinations were encouraged to make effective use of various State government initiatives, including skill training, career guidance, and employment programmes, to enhance their career prospects.

Addressing during the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Tiruchi Study Circle (TSC), organised by the Tiruchi Study Circle Alumni Association (TRISCAA) on Sunday, K. Veera Raghava Rao, Secretary, Labour and Employment Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, said several initiatives had been introduced to support aspirants at different stages of their career preparation and urged them to utilise these programmes.

He said more than 20,000 aspirants receive career guidance every year and private job fairs were organised for nearly three lakh candidates annually. Employment offices across the State have been converted into skill centres to offer diversified, youth-oriented career guidance and employment opportunities, he said.

Emphasising the importance of discipline, Mr. Rao advised aspirants to manage their time effectively, avoid distractions such as excessive use of social media, and remain focused, in addition to hard work and perseverance, to achieve success.

Tiruchi Collector V. Saravanan said the knowledge centres functioning in the district to train aspirants for competitive examinations had produced notable results, with 12 candidates so far securing placements in services such as the UPSC, banks, and ISRO. Since 2021, around 57 training sessions had been conducted for the voluntary study circle under the Employment and Skill Development Department, benefitting 3,177 aspirants, of whom 168 had been appointed in various government departments.

The TSC, functioning under the District Employment Office, was established in the year 2000 with the objective of guiding and mentoring aspirants preparing for civil services and other competitive examinations, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, by providing access to books, guidance, and a structured learning environment.

P. Suresh Kumar, retired Regional Deputy Director and founder of the TSC, was felicitated for his exemplary service and mentoring of aspirants over the years. Mentors, staff members, and contributors who had supported the study circle were honoured on the occasion.

Panel discussions were held on topics such as preparation strategies, discipline, and the role of mentorship in competitive examinations. Alumni shared their experiences and explained how the study circle had helped them crack civil services examinations.
