CPI (M) urges State govt. to reject Labour Codes

Urging the State government to not implement the four Labour Codes notified by the Centre, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has sought a labour conference, including representatives of political parties and trade unions, on the lines of Kerala model to discuss the adverse effects of these codes.

It has also asked the State government to reject Viksit Bharat G Ram G Act brought by the Centre and extend guaranteed employment in urban areas too.

The party has condemned the rising attack on federalism by the ruling BJP at the Centre in terms of financial, legislative, and administrative powers of the State.

Criticising the “anti-democratic” rules, it asked the government to withdraw restrictions imposed on protests and processions across the State, including in Bengaluru.

“Contract and outsourced employment that does not provide security should be regularised. Social Security Act for workers should be implemented. The minimum wages for non-permanent employees in private sector and gram panchayat workers should be increased to ₹36,000 per month and provide a minimum pension of ₹9,000 for the retired,” stated a petition submitted to the State government here.

The petition containing 20 demands was handed over to Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy during the CPI (M)’s ‘Janadani’ rally, culmination of a 45-day door to door campaign to collect people’s feedback.

Seeking reservation for locals in employment in the private sector, it urged the State and Union governments to fill vacancies and ensure implementation of Kannada in administration in private sector and Central government offices.

Urging to strengthen government schools and ensure BPL cards to all the eligible people, it demanded that the government provide housing for the houseless. Corruption should be curbed and atrocities on women and Dalits should be controlled, the petition said, expressing fears of minorities due to rise in communalism.

The party has sought diversion of Krishna river waters to address the water shortage in Bayaluseeme districts of Kolar, Tumakuru, Chickballapur, and Bengaluru Rural.
