Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, MP for Mysuru, on Sunday, expressed confidence that the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada (CESCK) would soon be accorded autonomous status, while reaffirming his commitment to the development of the centre.
Speaking at the Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations held at the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) in Mysuru, Mr. Wadiyar said the process for granting autonomy had already begun. “I think the process has started, and I am with you on this. Only the final decision remains. Land for housing the centre has been identified and development can take place,” he said.
The MP had recently urged the Ministry of Education to accord autonomous status to CESCK, stating that autonomy was crucial for the centre’s growth and long-term development. He pointed out that although Kannada was declared a classical language 17 years ago, the study centre is yet to receive autonomous status.
At present, CESCK functions under CIIL. Mr. Wadiyar, in a memorandum, noted that the centre’s potential remains constrained in the absence of autonomy and adequate infrastructure.
A dedicated building is a key prerequisite for autonomy. In this regard, the University of Mysore Syndicate has identified four acres and two guntas of land near the Pump House, opposite Basavapeetha, for establishing a permanent campus. The State government had issued an order in 2020 approving the allotment of the land.
Mr. Wadiyar had urged the Ministry of Education and the Department of Higher Education to expedite the release of the required funds and extend full support for the construction of the new facility and the upgradation of CESCK’s infrastructure.
