A 60-year-old man running a household goods shop was allegedly beaten to death by his distant relative following a dispute over the latter’s demand to set up a separate shop in J.P. Nagar on Tuesday (September 22) evening.
The deceased has been identified as Raju Singh, who had been residing in Bengaluru for nearly 30 years and running the shop at Ganga Industries in JP Nagar 7th Phase.
According to the Puttenahalli police, the accused, Hari Singh, 41, had been working with the victim since 2006 and had allegedly been pressuring him to help him start a separate shop. Raju had reportedly sought a year’s time to arrange the investment, following which the two had been quarrelling for the past three days.
On September 22, between 7.20 p.m. and 7.45 p.m., when Raju was alone at the shop on the first floor, Hari allegedly went and started arguing with him. He allegedly assaulted Raju, leaving him critically injured.
The accused subsequently informed the victim’s daughter about the incident and fled from the spot. Raju was found dead in a pool of blood, having sustained severe injuries to his head and face.
Based on a complaint from the victim’s daughter, the Puttenahalli police registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder.
