BJP has made inroads into rural Telangana: Ramchander Rao

BJP-supported candidates have won nearly 1,000 Sarpanch posts, 1,200 Deputy Sarpanch positions, and over 10,000 ward member seats across Telangana, despite threats and pressure from local leaders, indicating the party’s growing strength in rural areas, claimed Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday.

Speaking at a felicitation programme for newly-elected local body members in Bhuvanagiri, the former MLC said that these victories are a strong rebuttal to critics, who once labelled BJP an “urban-centric party.” He noted that BJP-affiliated candidates secured key positions across districts, while the number of BRS-supported Sarpanches dropped from 8,000 to 2,000, reflecting its waning influence.

“This victory reflects the hard work of our workers and leaders, and the trust people have placed in the Modi government’s commitment to rural development,” Mr. Rao said. He added that these wins strengthen the party at the grassroots level and lay a solid foundation to expand BJP to every household in Telangana. Welfare and development schemes of the Centre, including free rice distribution, grain procurement, and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, have played a major role, he observed.

Mr. Rao asserted that a “double-engine government” is essential for Telangana’s progress. “BJP’s rise in villages is unstoppable, and the party will come to power in the State in the next election,” he said.

In a separate press conference at the State BJP office, Legislature Party leader A. Maheshwar Reddy highlighted Nirmal district’s strong support for BJP that won 80 Sarpanch posts out of 128. In Mudhole, BJP secured 98 out of 178 panchayats, while Khanapur added 36 Sarpanches. Overall, Nirmal district delivered 213 Sarpanches, 213 Deputy Sarpanches, and over 1,300 ward members, he said.

“These results reflect growing public anger against the Congress government, which has failed to fulfill its six guarantees and 420 promises, plunging the state into corruption and misrule. Despite triangular contests and local pressures, voters decisively supported BJP, signaling a major shift in rural Telangana,” Mr. Reddy added.
