Team Sentinel Vision from from St. Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru, won the Smart India Hackathon 2025 that concluded in Coimbatore recently.

Students from St. Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, have emerged national champions at Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025, one of the largest innovation hackathons and India’s premier problem-solving platform, which concluded in Coimbatore recently.
A release here said the hackathon, a flagship initiative of the Union Ministry of Education was organised through MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC) in collaboration with All India Council for Technical Education. The SIH 2025 edition witnessed 72,165 ideas submitted by 68,766 teams nationwide. Following a rigorous multi-stage evaluation process, 1,360 teams were shortlisted for the grand finale, conducted across 60 nodal centres under the theme “Hack for Bharat, Build for the World.“
The Hardware Edition National Grand Finale was held from December 8 to 12 at Coimbatore, where shortlisted teams were evaluated by domain experts, industry professionals, and government representatives.
Team Sentinel Vision from SJEC presented an innovative and robust hardware solution that impressed the jury with its technical depth, execution quality and real-world applicability.
Following an exhaustive evaluation process, Team Sentinel Vision was declared the winner and received a cash prize of ₹1.5 lakh. The project titled “Smart Glass for the Visually Impaired,“ focuses on developing an intelligent assistive device to help visually challenged individuals navigate their environment safely and independently. The smart glass integrates advanced sensors, embedded hardware and intelligent processing to detect obstacles and provide real-time feedback.
The team included fourth year engineering students P. Gagan Rai, R.G. Abhishek, Aditi Ravindra Naik, M.V. Ashwin, Christopher Inas Laindav, and H. Gurumadhava.
