BJP holds meetings protesting ‘bankrupt’ State government

Dakshina Kannada district Bharatiya Janata Party president Satish Kumpala on Friday, said the Congress government, which had made grandiose declarations promising to fulfill the aspirations of people from coastal Karnataka, gave nothing on the ground.

Addressing party cadres at a meeting protesting ‘financial bankruptcy’ of the government near the Clock Tower here, Mr. Kumpala said the Mangaluru Cabinet meeting utterly failed to address people’s aspirations.

Mangaluru City North MLA Y. Bharath Shetty described the Congress government as a ‘bankrupt government’ and expressed outrage over its financial management. Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath spoke and alleged that the State’s economy was collapsing. He demanded that the government should present an account of its financial management to the people.

Present and former MLAs, MLCs and other leaders were present.

Protest in Udupi

Udupi District BJP organised a similar protest in front of its office at Kunjibettu in Udupi. Hundreds of BJP workers participated in the protest and shouted slogans against the State government. The government does not have funds to provide money to the beneficiaries of various schemes including guarantee schemes, old age pension etc, the BJP workers said.

State BJP executive member Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde said a bankrupt government is ruling the State. Even though there is no money in the government treasury, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar is announcing that he will give ₹32,000 crore to coastal districts and ₹1 lakh crore to Hyderabad Karnataka region, he chided.
