The failure of the ruling Congress government to win the Kinnigoli and Bajpe town Panchayat elections reflects the mood of the people against the Congress, said Dakshina Kannada BJP district president Sathish Kumpala in Mangaluru, on December 29.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Kumpala said in the first-ever election held since both the urban local bodies (ULBs) were upgraded from gram panchayats, the BJP was elected to power with an absolute majority. The election results indicated that people have rejected the Siddaramaiah-led government.
“People are unhappy with the Government’s lack of effort to fill potholes on roads. The Government has also been irregular in paying the monthly honorarium to the women heads of the family under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme. The Government has also failed in taking effective steps to ensure that laterite stones and sand required for construction purposes were made available at affordable rates to people in Dakshina Kannada. These are among the reasons for the poor show of Congress in the polls,” he said.
