BJP functionaries, alleging irregularities in the draft electoral roll released recently, submitted a petition to District Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar here on Monday.
The petitioners alleged that the draft electoral roll released as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process had many fraudulent entries across all 10 Assembly constituencies in the district.
The petition read that over a thousand entries belonging to deceased individuals or those who had changed addresses remained unremoved in Vandiyur Theerthakadu area under booths 337 and 338 of Madurai East constituency.
“Notably, in booth 337, 115 voters are registered under single door number. In booth 338, 96 voters are still listed under the same address,” it added.
BJP State executive Maha Suseendran, who submitted the petition along with the voters’ list, demanded that polling booth officials from a different district be brought in to inspect Madurai East constituency booths and remove the fraudulent entries.
He said: “If a proper audit is conducted in the constituency, over 70,000 votes would need to be deleted. The ruling DMK government is intentionally keeping tens of thousands of such fraudulent votes across all 10 constituencies in Madurai without removing them.
Mr. Praveen Kumar assured the delegation that a proper inquiry would be conducted and appropriate action taken.
