Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary P. Shanmugam criticised that none of the DMK, AIADMK, and TVK governments have taken suo motu action in the Gem Veeramani case.
Inaugurating the CPI(M) district office at Karaikudi on Saturday, he said, it was only due to the court’s order that the case was expedited and Veeramani was arrested.
“Even the TVK, after forming the government, accepted the closure report in the case filed by the previous government. But as the POCSO special court judge Padma refused to close the case and ordered investigation, the case took a different turn,” he explained.
Further, he said, instead of the Chennai City Police Commissioner supervising the investigation of this Special Investigation Team (SIT), it should be conducted under the direct supervision of the High Court.
Speaking about the by-elections, he said, since they were contesting alone, there was no change in their political stance of extending outside support to the TVK government.
However, fielding candidates, who resigned just 20 days after winning under the AIADMK symbol was an act of insulting the voters, he charged.
“Therefore, without joining any alliance, we are contesting alone, relying on the support of the working people. We will win,” he stated.
The deletion of over 13 crore voters from electoral rolls across the country has caused great shock.
“Other Election Commissioners have exposed that the Chief Election Commissioner is acting as a puppet of the central BJP government. To prevent the attempt to capture power by deleting voters and to urge the re-inclusion of the deleted voters, a State-wide protest will be held by the Left parties across Tamil Nadu on October 1,” Mr. Shanmugam informed.
The issuance of a government order to hand over electricity reading operations to private entities in the Electricity Board was condemnable, he said.
Similarly, contract workers are being appointed in permanent positions across all departments. This should be avoided, and permanent employees should be appointed, he added.
