The Collectorate witnessed an emotionally charged gathering on Sunday as the Andhra Pradesh Revenue Services Association (APRSA) unveiled a bronze statue of its late general secretary, comrade Thota Sudhakara Prasad.
Marking his 25th death anniversary, the event drew employee leaders and dignitaries to honour his supreme sacrifice for employee rights. APRSA State president and AP JAC Amaravati chairman Bopparaju Venkateswarlu unveiled the statue.
Addressing the assembly, Mr. Venkateswarlu recalled how Sudhakara Prasad laid down his life while spearheading agitations against injustices faced by local employees. He noted that the leader famously went on an indefinite hunger strike for temporary workers’ regularisation just a day after his wedding. Mr. Venkateswarlu added that statues are being installed across all districts so future generations can draw inspiration from his selfless stewardship.
Highlighting recent achievements under the AP JAC Amaravati banner—such as securing pending DAs, surrender leaves, pension benefits, ward-sachivalayam increments, and the Employees’ Health Scheme—Mr. Venkateswarlu cautioned that the union would not hesitate to take the path of agitation if employee self-respect is compromised.
The event presided over by Visakhapatnam District APRSA president S.A. Trinadha Rao, it featured addresses from AP JAC Amaravati district chairman Satti Nageswara Reddy, State general secretary Chebrolu Krishnamurthy, and associate chairman T.V. Phani Perraju. They lauded Mr. Venkateswarlu for sustaining Sudhakara Prasad’s legacy.
The late leader’s wife, Kamakshi Sudhakara Prasad, shared emotional reflections, stating that employees were her husband’s entire world and praised Mr. Venkateswarlu’s dedicated leadership. Deputy Collectors Visweswara Rao, P.V. Ramana, T. Govind, and various association leaders participated.
