Two brothers J. Muthuvel, 27, and Maharajan, 25, of Rayapuram near Vadipatti allegedly assaulted two persons of the same locality as one of them refused to marry off his daughter to the elder brother on Saturday.

The girl’s father, P. Balamurugan, 38, and his neighbour, C. Susi, 60, have been admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.

The police said that Muthuvel had knocked down Balamurugan when he was riding his bike on Friday evening.

When Balamurugan questioned him, he threatened with dire consequences to his daughter who had refused to reciprocate when he proposed to her.

The girl had said that Muthuvel had visited her at her college and insisted that she should love him and harassed him.

Subsequently, when Balamurugan was sitting near a shop, Maharajan attacked him with an iron pipe.

Even as he suffered head injuries, Susi tried to prevent further attack on him.

However, Maharajan stabbed on Susi’s hand with a knife.

Local people gathered, saved them and rushed them to the GRH after providing them first aid at Government Hospital in Sholavandan.

The Sholavandan police have booked an assault case against the brothers and are investigating.
