Delhi Metro recorded its highest-ever daily passenger boarding on September 17 with 82.44 lakh boardings across its network, amid the ongoing strike by Delhi Transport Corporation bus drivers.
The 82,44,903 boardings surpassed the previous record of 81,87,674 recorded on August 8 last year, as per a press release. To handle the increased demand, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) ran 32 additional trips on Thursday.
The higher ridership came as commuters faced disruption in bus services due to the DTC strike, prompting greater reliance on the Metro, the release said. The DMRC said it would continue to augment services and infrastructure to cater to the city’s growing ridership.
DTC bus drivers are on a strike since Tuesday demanding improved service conditions, including a minimum daily wage of ₹2,000, annual bonus, payment for working on government holidays, and medical insurance, among others.
