The Pandiyaru–Moyar Inaippu Iyakkam has urged the district administration and the State Transport Department to introduce circular bus services in Erode town to ease commuting difficulties.
In a petition emailed to District Collector S. Kandasamy, coordinator A.N. Asaithambi said Erode is a major administrative, commercial and agricultural hub, housing key institutions such as the Collectorate, Government Hospital, courts, railway station, educational institutions and markets, resulting in heavy daily passenger movement.
The petition said the Solar bus stand, located about nine km from the town, was not being fully utilised due to the lack of adequate connecting services. Although around 100 buses operate from the terminal, passengers face difficulty reaching important locations in the town.
Residents from Bhavani, Gobichettipalayam, Sathyamangalam, Anthiyur, Ammapettai and Perundurai, besides nearby hill villages, are forced to make multiple transfers to reach the Government Hospital, Collectorate, courts and the railway station, affecting patients, senior citizens, students, farmers and daily wage earners.
As a remedy, the movement proposed two circular bus routes linking the Erode Central Bus Stand, Solar Bus Stand, railway station, Government Hospital, Collectorate and courts, with services at 30-minute intervals. One route was proposed via P.S. Park, Kalaimadu Silai, Thindal, Mettukadai, Nasiyanur, Chithode and Soolai, while the other would operate through Soolai and Chithode, enabling easier access to both bus stands from surrounding areas.
