A 23-year-old Delhi Police recruitment candidate died after he collapsed during a race as part of the Physical Endurance and Measurement Test (PEMT) at the Delhi Police Academy in Wazirabad on Monday, police said.
According to a police officer, the candidate, identified as Saurav Kumar, a resident of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, had completed three rounds of the race when he complained of physical discomfort at around 9.09 a.m. and moved to the side of the track, where some other candidates were sitting.
“He suddenly collapsed and became unconscious. Police staff immediately alerted the medical team and called an ambulance stationed at the venue. He was administered cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation and rushed to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead,” the officer said.
The body was sent to GTB Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and his family has been informed, the officer said, adding that necessary proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita have been initiated. Further inquiry is under way.
