Candidate attacked by functionary of his own party over financial dispute in Salem

A candidate of the S. Ramadoss faction of the Pattali Makkal Katch (PMK) was allegedly attacked by a functionary of his own party on the premises of a police station over a financial dispute on Friday (May 1, 2026) evening.

Suresh Kumar (45), a resident of Danishpet near Kadayampatti, was a farmer, and he contested in the recently held Assembly election as a PMK (S. Ramadoss faction) candidate in the Omalur Assembly constituency. He appeared before the Omalur police for investigation in a case on Friday. He came out of the police station shortly afterwards, and at that time, PMK functionary Ayyavu (40), a resident of Danishpet who had reportedly given ₹20 lakh to Suresh Kumar a few years ago, demanded the money and attacked him on the police station premises.
