The cane crushing season for 2025-26 commenced at Perambalur Sugar Mills Ltd., Eraiyur, in Perambalur district and the Arignar Anna Sugar Mills at Kurungulam in Thanjavur district on Thursday.
Perambalur District Collector N. Mirunalini and MLA M. Prabhakaran inaugurated the crushing. District Revenue Officer G. Kannan, sugar mill’s Chief Executive R. Paneerselvam, farmers and local body representatives were present at Eraiyur.
Sugarcane raised on 5,311 acres in Perambalur, Ariyalur, and Kallakurichi districts would be crushed at the mill during the current season and about 1.50 lakh tonnes of sugar is expected to be produced with an expected average recovery of 9.50%, according to an official release.
The Kurungulam sugar factory would process sugarcane to be supplied from 5,500 acres in Thanjavur and Pudukottai districts with the targeted production of 1.60 lakh tonnes. Gandharvakottai MLA M. Chinnadurai inaugurated the cane crushing at the mill on Thursday. S. Raman, Chief Executive of the mill, was present.
