The Cuddalore New Town police, on Sunday (May 17, 2026), booked a case against V. Ponraj, scientific advisor to former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, on charges of making derogatory remarks against women who support Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

Police said Mr. Ponraj, had spoken in a derogatory manner against women in an interview to a Tamil YouTube channel weeks ago.

Based on a complaint lodged by B. Rajkumar, district secretary of the TVK, the police booked a case against Mr. Ponraj under Sections 79, 353 (2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita read with Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women (TNPHW) Act, read with Section 67 of Information Technology Act.
