The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has registered a case against a suspected fake BPO company allegedly being used to train and deploy youngsters for online fraud, at HRBR Layout in northeast Bengaluru.
The case was registered by the CCB Organised Crime Wing (OCW), West Division, based on a complaint by inspector Hajaresh Killedar.
Acting on a tip-off on September 23, the police verified a company operating from the third and fourth floors of a building on Hennur Main Road, HRBR Layout 3rd Block, Keshava Nagar, Kacharakanahalli.
According to the complaint, the operators had allegedly lured 60 to 70 young men and women by promising them online jobs. They were allegedly given training to carry out online fraud and were made part of the criminal conspiracy.
The suspects allegedly used SIM cards registered in other persons’ names to contact people whose details had already been collected, threaten them and fraudulently obtain money. The operation was reportedly being conducted using computers, including during late-night hours, raising suspicion among local residents.
The CCB suspects the company was being used for organised financial offences and online cheating.
A case has been registered under Sections 61(2), 318(4), 319(2), 308(2), 351(4) and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 42(3)(e) of the Telecommunications Act, 2023.
Further investigation is under way.
