The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) plans to initiate a conservancy and solid waste management project in the tenements of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) in Zones I, II, III, and parts of Zone VII.
The project covers 14 TNUHDB tenement locations in Divisions 82, 83, 85, and 86. These tenements together comprise 13,239 households spread across an area of about 90.26 acres.
Officials said that the project proposes to engage the private company — Chennai Enviro Solutions Pvt. Ltd. to carry out conservancy operations. The estimated monthly cost for providing conservancy services in the TNUHDB tenements in Zones I, II, III, and VII is ₹60,06,203. The scope of work includes daily collection and removal of all types of waste from the tenements, cleaning of internal roads, walkways, parks and playgrounds, and transportation of waste using battery-operated three-wheeler vehicles and refuse compactor bins.
According to information from the GCC, 119 personnel are to be deployed, including sweepers, drivers, helpers, and supervisors. The required equipment includes battery-operated vehicles, compactors, secondary collection bins, and other supporting vehicles for waste transport and handling.
The civic body said the project is proposed following reports of irregular conservancy services in the tenements. The sanitation work is planned to begin from March 1, 2026, and will be carried out exclusively by the selected contractor within the identified project areas.

The project also provides for continuous monitoring through an independent engineering agency, with performance to be reviewed against specified service indicators.
